Williams have suffered their worst ever start to a Formula 1 season since the team was established back in 1977, but a third place in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix comes as a real boost according to Valtteri Bottas.

The Finn looked competitive throughout all three sessions, finishing fourth in Q1, then third in Q2. During the final session, it looked like things might not go his way, but Bottas made the most of the return of the rain to go third quickest.

He says they got "everything right" on Saturday.

"It means a lot. We're way further up than we could ever imagine. It has been so difficult for the first six races for us, and it’s a nice boost for the team.

"We really got everything quite right here today," he added.

The rookie is however wary for Sunday's race, and he doesn't believe they have top ten pace just yet.

"If it is dry it is going to be difficult. I still have zero points and there is still a lot to learn.

"I think the fact is that in the dry the car does not belong in P3 at the moment," he added.
