Only Mercedes are faster than Toro Rosso – Verstappen

Max Verstappen believes Toro Rosso could be in a very strong position heading into the British Grand Prix, with only the Mercedes team ahead of them.

The Dutchman was third fastest in first practice and then seventh in second practice when the team opted to focus on long run pace over qualifying pace.

Speaking on Friday evening, Verstappen made the bold claim: “Only Mercedes was a bit faster [than us],” he said.

“I think the long run was very good. I was very happy with the long run. I had the Mercedes in front of me and he was not pulling away a lot.

“In general, the car balance was very good and I think we can be very strong in the race.

“So I think it was a good day, especially on a difficult track to learn.”
