Renault unveils 2016 challenger for F1 return

Renault has revealed the car with which it will make its full-time return to Formula 1 as a manufacturer – the RS16.

The all-new car, the first full manufacturer effort from Renault since 2010, features a predominantly black livery, with flashes of the French firm’s traditional racing yellow., although this is expected to change before the season kicks off in Australia.

Former McLaren racer Kevin Magnussen will join Jolyon Palmer at the team – replacing the outgoing Pastor Maldonado – with reigning GP3 Series champion Esteban Ocon set to fill a reserve driver role.

Bob Bell, who left Manor late last year, will serve as the team’s chief technical officer, alongside ART Grand Prix boss Frederic Vasseur, who has been appointed as Renault’s new racing director.

Renault completed its takeover of the Lotus squad – which it previously sold in 2010  –  in December, after a trying financial year for the Enstone based team.
