McLaren are reportedly happy with Honda’s development direction following the introduction of the Japanese manufacturer’s latest engine specification in Russia.
Honda used its final four development tokens to introduce an upgraded internal conbustion engine (ICE) for the race, which whilst only used during practice, offered a good step forward according to the team.
Honda’s chief of motorsport Yasuhisa Arai says they will now gather more data over the final four races where they hope to make further progress.
“We head to Circuit of The Americas with anticipation. It is a highly technical track that provides exciting racing,” he noted.
“Our goal is to gather more data throughout the remaining races, especially from our new ICE introduced in Sochi two weeks ago.
“The team has confirmed that the development direction is good, so we will now work on fine tuning it for the remaining four races.”
Arai also revealed McLaren will bring an update of their own to the United States GP this week.
“It will be interesting to see how this will work together with the updated aero package this weekend,” he added.
